A Celebration of Jasper (Jas) Wall at 75

Join us for a meeting to celebrate the 75th birthday of Jasper Wall — radio and optical astronomer, cosmologist, statistician, director, colleague and friend.

The conference will be held Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th December 2018 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Topics to be discussed include:

Some details of the scientific content of the meeting can be found on the programme page.

Scientific organising committee:

We have selected a hotel in downtown Vancouver where we recommend that people stay. But there are obviously many other options. Here are more details about accommodation, as well as some travel tips and suggestions for things to do in Vancouver.

This is the first week of exams at UBC, and so everything should be open, and the campus won't be as busy as it is during classes. For suggestions of places to eat lunch, see this file

We will be showing movie "The Dish" in a lecture theatre in the Physics & Astronomy Department at UBC on the evening of Wednesday 5th, starting at about 6pm. Snacks will be served. All welcome!

The banquet will be held on Thursday 6th December at Grouse Mountain, "The Peak of Vancouver". Transport will be provided (pick up either at UBC or the Sylvia Hotel) - here's further details and banquet information. Here's UBC's secure payment site for booking a place at the dinner. Note that space is limited and has now filled up completely - however, there's a waiting list you can add your name to.

There is no conference fee, but we would like to estimate numbers. Please email dscott"AT"astro.ubc.ca if you plan to attend some of the scientific sessions and your name isn't already on the list of participants.
