ASTRONOMY 102 COURSE GOALS


At the end of the course I would like to know more about:

-black holes (from almost everybody) -galaxies

-dark matter -dark energy

-current state of astronomy and the universe as we understand it

-big bang



During this course I would like to develop the following skills:

-applying physics and math to astronomy

-thinking analytically

-lab report writing



Things (topics, approaches to learning, etc.) I would not like this course to include:

-too much math -too little math

-too much repetition -irrelevant material

-material rushed through too quickly

-essays



Here are some sentences to describe the ‘Learning Goals’ for this course:

- Gain more understanding of astronomy.

- To have a better overall understanding of the universe on various scales in terms of how it functions and changes, how it began, how it will end, etc.

- To gain knowledge and critical thinking skills applicable to other courses, a future career, and/or life in general.
