Description

This course provides an introduction to the principles and techniques of modern observational astronomy. Topics range from fundamentals of radiation measurement to practical telescopes and detectors. Both coherent and incoherent detection is examined in the context of imaging, spectroscopic and interferometric observations. A companion laboratory course, ASTR 405, provides direct experience with astronomical observations and data analysis.
